This year was a turning point in our Halloween experiences. It was the first year we took a full blown kid instead of a toddler trick-or-treating. We joined our best friends down the street for the festivities. We trailed our boys as they, in their professional Halloween experience, bounded from one house to another, often hitting up two or three doors before we could reach them again. They galloped along as we encouraged our sometimes hesitant little ladies up to doors and coached them on the phrase again. Despite this somewhat new phenomenon, Evangeline was very excited to participate and to be dressed up. She really enjoyed carrying her own loot and very begrudgingly added her winnings to the pumpkin instead of her mouth. She guarded her pumpkin and refused to let anyone carry it for her. I peeled off with Evangeline after a couple of streets and returned home to pass out candy at our house. She was content to get to finally partake in all of the good things she had collected in her pumpkin, and she eagerly greeted all of the patrons at our door. Meanwhile, the boys continued on a massive candy adventure, trick-or-treating for two full hours.
