Family Fun Day

Today was Family Fun Day.

On Family Fun Day you do anything that will provoke joy and wonder from the littlest family members, because seeing that of course solicits it from the big ones, too. Therefore, plan for success: 1) Ride a train 2) play in water.

We started off our day by biking to the nearby public transit station.

We hopped on and rode downtown. Every time we stopped at a station Josiah would gently place his hand on my shoulder and say, "Mama, we get to go again?" We were amused by his overflowing excitement as he "choo chooed" and cried, "all ABOARD" intermittently. His chatty baby voice caught the smiles of several passengers and even the conductor. He got to wave at her when we got off at the first stop.

First stop: The Centennial Olympic Park where Josiah could play in the water fountains.

He played for a while, but once the announcement boomed regarding the upcoming water show he became timid. (see evidence)

We watched the fountain show, but Josiah was relieved when it was time to go. We headed out to find a place for lunch in Underground. Seems there isn't a lot left down there, so we got a chocolate treat to tide us over until we could find a lunch spot. As we biked we decided The Varsity was it. We biked to the Varsity, ate lunch, and headed to Piedmont park for the Atlanta Ice Cream Festival.

The festival was somewhat of a disappointment, but of course they had an overpriced inflatable that Josiah wanted to bounce on. On Family Fun Day such things are permissible.

After that he ran and rolled down the grassy hill.

The coolest thing at the festival was the opportunity to get up close and personal with a fire truck. The firemen were very kind to Josiah, and we had the chance to get inside the engine. Unfortunately, they got a call while we were looking at the truck, so our visit was cut short. Josiah really enjoyed it.

We weren't impressed with the ice cream part of the ice cream festival, so we hopped back on the train (insert more joy and wonder) and rode it back out to Decatur to our favorite frozen yogurt spot.
